1. Client Survey
Client completes and submits a Client Survey for a new project.

2. Perform Preliminary Content Audit
Perform an early site audit on existing sites to gather page count, complexity -- request client's web stats, if possible. Provides a clear picture of the number of web pages that need to be designed and the types of content in the site.

3. Create Project Proposal
Project Proposal is based on Client Survey, including known goals, scope, requirements/functionality, implementation plan, budget, integration with existing marketing and business plans, and a preliminary schedule.

4. Send Project Proposal to client
Project Proposal may be revised, based on further client feedback. No hours are billed for any work before client signs off on Proposal (steps 1-3). The project is underway once client accepts Project Proposal.


5. Create staging site
A "sandbox" for site development.

6. Detailed Content Audit of existing site
May be page-by-page or general, based on time, budget, or requirements.

7. Develop Content-level View
Develop detailed analysis of all aspects of site content

8. Develop Site-level View
Holistic site structure, major site functions, navigation, naming conventions, etc.

9. Develop Page-level View
Page layout of content and navigation

10. Develop User-level View
How a user navigates the site each type of task.

11. Client provides new/edited content
Text and images, based on needs that arise from assessing each View (Content, Site, Page, and User).


12. Theme design (skinning)
One or more designs are provided to the client (contingent on budget and time). Design sign-off is needed before implementation can begin.


13. Create production server installation.

14. Implement site elements
Add site content, navigation, functionality (modules), and design theme(s).

15. Test site with client.
Prioritize bugs and fix them. This step may serve as preliminary client training.

16. Implementation complete
When testing is complete, client sign-offs on site.


17. Train client
Add content and maintain site, upload images, etc.

18. Develop maintenance plan
Meet with client to determine optimal maintenance plan based on time, budget, client's skill levels, etc.


19. Site goes live
Web site is now "in production".

20. Measure site performance and respond.
Using Google Analytics and Contact Us forms, the GA results help to develop and refine marketing plans, site changes, etc.
